I work with my hands for a living. Engines, grease, problems other people can't figure out. So when I found a van that was broken down and barely running, I didn't see a problem. I saw a home waiting to happen.

I bought it, repaired it, and moved in. Full time. While still working. In Sydney. No rent, no wasted weekends. Just the van, the road, and the quiet feeling that I'd figured something out most people never do.

Then an accident stopped everything. The van. The life. The plan. All of it on hold. But here's the thing about stopping: it gives you time to think. And what I kept thinking was I want to go back.

Mechanic by trade. Traveller by choice. Grateful soul by nature.

WHO I AM

So right now, I'm rebuilding the van. Not just patching it. Doing it properly, with everything I know and everything I learned from living in it the first time. And this time, I'm bringing everyone along for the ride.

That's what One Lucky Life is. Not a highlight reel. The real thing. The setbacks, the repairs, the small wins, and the open road waiting on the other side.

I grew up in Sri Lanka with big dreams and not many shortcuts. The first detour took me to Saudi Arabia. And while the plan I went there for didn't work out, what happened next was something I never expected.

I started exploring. Alone. City after city. Places most people from the outside world never see and rarely think to visit. I moved through Saudi Arabia with open eyes and an open mind, soaking in a culture, a landscape, and a way of life completely foreign to everything I'd known.

I even began learning Arabic. Not in a classroom, but in the streets, in conversations, in the slow and humbling way you pick up a language when you're truly living inside it. Saudi Arabia didn't give me what I came for. But it gave me something better.

From Sri Lanka to the open road, with a few detours along the way.

MY JOURNEY

Eventually I set my sights on Australia. This time it stuck. I built a life in Sydney, found work doing what I do best fixing things and started carving out something of my own. Then came the van. Broken, bought cheap, brought back to life. I lived in it full time. It was the freest I'd ever felt.

An accident forced me to stop. But it couldn't take away what I'd seen, what I'd learned, or where I'm headed. The van is being rebuilt. The journey is starting again. And this time, you're coming with me.

Always grateful, Lucky 🌞
